I shake things up, therefore I am

Watch this Ted Talk by James Geary, who tells us about the role of metaphor in our lives. Perhaps we might think of our ability as humans to create and shake things up as our reason for being. As an English teacher, I think such a philosophy is a good way to set the tone for the year.

    It’s a play on the famous line from Descartes: I think therefore I am. The point is, I think, that shaking things up, creating what is new, adds meaning to one’s existence as a thinker.
